French Country Kitchen Table

If you want to recreate the ever popular French country style in your kitchen then you can do this really easily by taking a run of the mill pine kitchen table and using treatments on the wood to make it look distressed so that it fits in with the French style. You can use treatments such as sanding, staining and various different varnishes that all make the wood look as though it is a lot older than it actually is.

French chic (or as some people know it shabby chic) has been embraced by many families in their homes as it means that they can furnish their home in a décor that is on trend but that also lends itself to the trials and tribulations of living in a busy household. You see it is not always wise to have chic and expensive home furnishings that cost the earth when you have children, as you can never relax and you will no doubt have to replace them sooner rather than later as they have got ruined

This is why the French country style is a great choice if you have kids as it means you will be able to relax and enjoy them when they are at their best age (which is also coincidentally the age when they are the most likely to put crayon all over your walls!)

Your kitchen is a great place to make use of the French country style and it can mean that you get away with and are able to hide all sorts of spills, dents and scrapes if your furniture is supposed to look a little worn.

As one of the most important pieces of furniture in your kitchen is your table, then it makes sense that you use this to tie in the French country look throughout the room.

You can really save money by using this type of décor as you will soon be able to pick up a cheap table at a second hand sale (or you might even know someone who has one that they want taking off their hands). Once you have managed to source a table you can then get to work creating your own bespoke piece of furniture. Take inspiration from interior design magazines and really make your table your own. The best thing about doing it yourself is that you can make the table fit in with the rest of your kitchen. For example if you have a light kitchen with pale units then you use a pale wash or varnish for the table so that the whole scheme links together.

However buying second hand is not for everyone, if you don't really want to buy a table that has been used before then you will have absolutely no problem going to any regular furniture store and buying your table new, there is a massive choice out there. All you have to do is to decide the budget and the size of the table that you want.
